Montwedi Mphathi is a mining engineer with over 35 years in operations management including leadership roles at BCL Mining and Smelting and Botswana Ash. He was the first Botswana citizen to lead both businesses, where he was credited with improving safety, productivity and profitability. He has experience in managing in-house mine development projects including stand-alone mines and shaft extension. Mr. Mphathi has extensive experience developing and sustaining productive working relationships with stakeholders from labour unions, suppliers, customers, regulators, lenders to communities.
Mr. Mphathi is currently the President of the Botswana Chamber of Mines, an organization whose aim among others is to influence government policy for the benefit of the mining industry and the economy at large.
Mr. Kneipe Setlhare is a mining engineer with over 14 years of experience in mining operations management, including roles with BCL Mines and Smelting, and Discovery Metals Limited. His most recent role was Executive Country Manager since March 2017 at Giyani Metals Corp a public company listed in Toronto Stock Exchange, He is currently Country Director of Premium Nickel Resources based in Gaborone Office. Mr. Setlhare has years of experience managing both private and public companies involved in early stage exploration, preliminary economic assessment, feasibility study, mine development and commissioning, mine asset acquisitions and disposals.
Karabo Monepe, BACC, ACCA, ACPA
Karabo is dynamic finance professional who is highly driven and results oriented. He has substantial experience in planning and analysis, financial management and controls, financial reporting, auditing, banking, and people management acquired from his previous employers. Karabo describes himself as a value-oriented individual who executes his duties with integrity and honesty and maintains a high level of professional competence and engagement, striving to do the right things, right, first time. Karabo has a degree in accounting as well as an ACCA qualification. He is further supported with certifications including, Advanced Taxation, Enterprise Risk Management, Transformational Leadership & Change Management, and has completed a Senior Management Development Programme.

Boris is a seasoned leader in the Mining industry, with over 25 years of experience in senior and executive roles, Boris is South African, and has worked his entire career within Sub-Saharan Africa.
Most recently he was the CEO of Alphamin Resources listed on the Toronto Stock exchange (TSXV) as well as the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. He was instrumental in bringing the mine located in North Kivu DRC into full operation from a greenfield exploration program. AFM.V is now valued at more than $1Bn. His workforce was for the greater part local and was able to integrate strong community involvement as well as an open partnership and business building approach.
Boris graduated as a Civil Engineer BSc cum laude from the University of Cape Town. He is also a member of the South Africa Institute of Mining & Metallurgy. He holds an MBA from the WITS Business School, University of Witwatersrand (Dean’s merit list).
As Environment, Social and Governance Manager Shamil looks after the company’s stakeholder relations and communications. Her competencies are in leadership, ESG project development and management, policy advocacy, high Stakes meeting facilitation, and community development. Those around her would describe her as an astute, driven, accountable, transparent, resourceful, and intelligent individual who maintains a positive and proactive attitude even in the face of adversity.
She has a proven track record of successful youth development and leadership skills that accorded most youth the opportunities with the African Union, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Global Water Partnership (GWPSA), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) as well as other National Organizations such as Botswana Exporters and Manufacturers Association (BEMA) to name but a few.
McDonald graduated in 2009 from the University of Botswana with a Bachelor of Psychology degree and pursued a career in human resources at Botswana Savings Bank for a period shy of three years. He later became part of the team that set up Majwe Mining Joint Venture, Debswana’s largest contractor in 2012 and left in 2016 to rejoin the financial services sector. In the HR Space, McDonald is passionate about Culture Development, the People Strategy, Coaching and Training, Employee Branding, Digitization and automation. He is currently doing his dissertation towards fulfillment of the requirements to obtain a Master of Philosophy in People Management with the University of Cape Town. Outside work, Mac, is a father, partner, a dog lover who enjoys travelling and sight-seeing. He describes himself as a tenacious, resourceful, and lovable young professional who never stops learning.
