The Selkirk Project is situated 28 km south-east of the city of Francistown, and 75 km north of the Selebi Mines.  The Project consists of a Mining Licence covering an area of 1,457 ha and four Prospecting Licences covering 12,670 ha. The surface rights over the Mining Licence are privately owned farms 73NQ and 75NQ. 

A total of 1.0 Mt at grades of 2.6% Ni and 1.5% Cu was mined between 1989 and 2002.

Premium Nickel Resources Ltd. has been embarking on the Selkirk due diligence work program since being selected as the preferred bidder in the TNMC liquidation process. The former operator, BCL, acquired Selkirk from Norilsk Nickel through a purchase agreement that was finalized in October 2014. 

PNRL completed the acquisition of the Selkirk Mine in August, 2022. 

Quick Facts

Initial production at the Selkirk Mine took place in 1989 with Anglo American high grading Ni-Cu veins to produce 1 million tonnes @ 2.6% Ni and 1.5% Cu were mined between 1989 and 2002.
NI 43-101 compliant Indicated Mineral Resource of 6.0 Mt grading 1.06% Nickel and 0.36% Copper at cutoff grade of 0.75% Ni (LionOre 2007)).
PNRL is re-evaluating Selkirk as an independent modern operation with state-of-the-art processing and tailings management facilities.
The modernization redevelopment will prioritize minimizing environmental impacts using new technologies, less water, less power and enabling alternative energy to lower the carbon footprint.
